Salary: £16,781 – £17,772 per annum

Location: City Hall, 115 Charles Street, Leicester  LE1 1FZ

Full Time (37 hrs/wk), Fixed Term for 12 months – Graduate Opportunity

As part of the City Council’s drive to provide graduates with more opportunities to experience work and develop career paths we are pleased to offer an exciting and challenging Graduate Project Officer role within the City Mayor’s Office.

This is a varied role, one that will see you providing support to the City/Deputy City Mayor and Executive Team on a variety of projects and activities, including working on the Entrepreneurial Council’s agenda and exploring options around improving the Councils financial resilience and generating income.

With a keen interest in local and national politics, you will support various aspects of the work of the team, including research and information gathering projects. You will also help to co-ordinate and track delivery of key projects and packages of work that are important to the City/Deputy City Mayor and Executive Team. This opportunity will provide you with experience of working in a political environment covering a wide range of different areas of local authority activity.

Requirements of the post include:

-Must have graduated in the last 18 months with a 2:2 degree or above, preferably in a relevant subject (e.g. Social/Public Policy, Corporate Governance, Politics, Business Administration or similar subject);

-Demonstrate an interest in working in the public sector and within a political environment;

-Experience of and ability to produce professional written reports and presentations;

-Proficient in standard Microsoft Office packages including Word, Excel and PowerPoint;

-Good communication, professional attitude and interpersonal skills sufficient to deal effectively with customers / work colleagues / senior management;

-Demonstrate enthusiasm, willingness to learn, self-motivation, an analytical approach, accuracy and an eye for detail in the work that is produced;

-Able to use own initiative and work both alone and as part of a team;

-Able to manage time effectively and meet tight deadlines.
