Salary: £16,781 – £17,772 per annum

Location: City Hall, 115 Charles Street, Leicester  LE1 1FZ

Full Time (37 hrs/wk), Fixed Term for 12 months – Graduate Opportunities

As part of the Council’s drive to provide graduates with more opportunities to experience work and develop career paths we are pleased to offer exciting and challenging Graduate Project Officer roles in the Development Team, working alongside colleagues from Planning and Surveying disciplines. The team has a strong track record in recruiting, mentoring and developing graduates.

The Development Team delivers key physical urban regeneration projects in the city in line with Leicester City Council’s Economic Action Plan and the City Mayor’s Delivery Plan. Current key projects which you could be supporting include: The Waterside Regeneration Area, Ashton Green Sustainable Urban Extension, River Soar and Grand Union Canal environmental improvement projects, Leicester’s Cultural Quarter, Pioneer Park/Space Park, as well as a variety of city centre-based projects.

You will assist senior members of staff in project delivery as well as take on your own projects, as your skills develop. You will have the opportunity to gain skills in areas such as the built environment, physical regeneration, planning, project management, funding and finance, legal, geographical information systems (GIS), comms, procurement, inward investment and economic development, amongst others. You will gain a wide range of transferable skills working across various departments, and external organisations, in a multi-disciplinary environment. The position also offers an exciting insight into local government/public sector working.

Requirements for the post include:

-Must have graduated in the last 2 years (or due to graduate this summer) with a 2:1 degree or above in a relevant subject (e.g. Planning (RTPI), Planning and Development (RICS), Real Estate Management, Urban Regeneration, or similar discipline).

Or Masters degree: See above for applicable subjects. Must have graduated in the last 2 years (or due to graduate this summer) with a Merit;

-Demonstrate an interest in working within the field of the built environment/property and have a basic understanding of regeneration issues;

-Demonstrate experience of and ability to produce professional reports;

-Good communication and interpersonal skills;

-Professional attitude towards work with ability to deal effectively with customers, work colleagues and senior management;

-Demonstrate enthusiasm, willingness to learn and self-motivation;

-Must be able to work alone and effectively as part of a team.
