As part of the City Council’s drive to provide graduates with more opportunities to experience work and develop career paths we are pleased to offer an exciting and challenging Graduate Project Officer role within the Scrutiny Support Team.
The Scrutiny Support Team support the work of elected councillors in undertaking their scrutiny roles. You will support various aspects of the work of the team, especially research projects on specific topics identified by the Council’s scrutiny commissions, and help to co-ordinate and track the work-programmes of scrutiny commissions. This opportunity will provide you with experience of working in a political environment covering a wide range of different areas of local authority activity.
Requirements of the post include:
-Must have graduated in the last 18 months (or due to graduate this summer) with a 2:2 degree or above, preferably in a relevant subject (e.g. Social/Public Policy, Corporate Governance, Politics or similar subject);
-Experience of and ability to produce professional reports and presentations;
-Proficient in standard Microsoft Office packages including Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
-Demonstrate an interest in working in the public sector and within a political environment;
-Good communication, professional attitude and interpersonal skills sufficient to deal effectively with customers / work colleagues / senior management;
-Demonstrate enthusiasm, willingness to learn, self-motivated, an analytical approach, accuracy and an eye for detail in the work that is produced;
-Able to use own initiative and work both alone and as part of a team;
-Able to manage time effectively and meet tight deadlines.
