Planning Technician

Facilitating economic growth is a key priority for the Borough Council and we have a vacancy for a Planning Technician to join and provide technical support to our busy and committed planning officers who deal with planning applications and related submissions for a wide range of development proposals.

As a principal responsibility of this post, you would perform a vital role in validating planning applications and related submissions as they come in and work closely with other colleagues in our Business Support Unit who are responsible for recording the applications in our computerised database and spatial GIS system. This will involve identifying the relevant consultees and publicity requirements for applications as well as supporting the decision making process, including assisting with the preparation of presentations to the Planning Committee.

You would also perform the role as an administrator for the Idox systems and section 106 database. There may also be an opportunity with appropriate training to process requests for advice on permitted development and similar submissions.  If you are interested in a career in planning, this post provides an excellent opportunity at the entry level for the service.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and well organised individual with office experience, good ICT skills and good attention to detail with the ability to work under pressure and be part of an effective team delivering a quality service to our customers.

The Council offices are located in a brand new facility which promotes remote working; working from home may therefore be offered / required, subject to the needs of the business.

If you feel you have the qualities outlined above then you can obtain further details and apply online by clicking on the link below. If you would like to have an informal discussion about this post, please contact: Andrew Pegram 0115 914 8598.
