Training & Safety Co-ordinator (Highways)

Salary: £23,866 – £26,470 per annum

Location: Castle Park Depot, 90 Leycroft Road, Leicester, LE4 1BZ

Permanent, Full Time

The City Highways section undertakes highway maintenance and construction activities on behalf of Leicester City Council. You will be required to develop, co-ordinate and deliver a robust training and development programme for operational staff and maintain operational staff training record systems. You will also monitor site safety and environmental performance, liaising with operational staff to undertake risk assessments and implement safe systems of work. Your role will include maintaining and improving the group’s Health & Safety management systems, procedures and risk assessments, implementing measures to monitor and improve safety performance and reduce risk to staff and members of the public.

Key duties of the role:

-Monitors Health, Safety and Environmental performance for the Group;

-Produces risk assessments, safe systems of work, etc.;

-Develops and promotes strategies to improve safety, safety awareness and culture amongst the workforce;

-Undertakes the delivery of training and ‘tool box’ talks to operatives and staff on routine safety issues, safe working procedures and other work related matters;

-Plans and co-ordinates delivery of operational staff training and development requirements;

-Assists in maintaining training record systems and procedures to facilitate development of operational staff.

Requirements of the post include:

-Substantial and relevant experience of working in an operational environment in a construction discipline;

-Experience of working in a training environment and able to plan and deliver training to large groups of people;

-A relevant qualification in Health & Safety, or related discipline e.g. NEBOSH General Certificate;

-Knowledge of Health & Safety and Environmental legislation and its applicability to manual and highway construction operations;

-Ability to improve and maintain the group’s Health & Safety management systems and raise awareness of Health & Safety issues;

-Ability to develop, co-ordinate and deliver a robust training and experiential development programme for operational staff and improve and maintain a suitable recording system;

-Full UK driving licence.
