About the role
This is an exciting opportunity to join our Internal Audit team!
Our Audit and Risk Management service provides a dedicated internal audit, internal control / risk management and counter-fraud service to West Northamptonshire Council (one of the largest new unitary authorities), and other partners including the Northamptonshire Children’s Trust.
This role is flexible, meaning you can carry out the majority of your work remotely, coming into the main Northampton office or any of our other office locations for meetings as and when required.

What will you be doing?
You will have responsibility for undertaking a varied and interesting portfolio of internal audit work across all areas of the Council. Reporting into the Audit Manager and supported by a Principal Auditor, your work will provide assurance on the effectiveness of our risk management, governance, policy, and internal control processes.
You will be full / part qualified CCAB, or Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), or qualified Association of Accounting (AAT); or actively studying for a relevant qualification and have relevant experience commensurate with these qualifications and/or the role.
About you
We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and experienced internal auditor. You will be a team player and excellent communicator who is able to write concise and well-reasoned audit reports to a high standard. Your problem-solving skills, attention to detail and an enquiring mind, with an ability to balance work priorities and work under pressure to achieve pre-determined personal and team targets is fundamental to you being an effective auditor.
Your desire to improve the way systems and services work, challenge current processes, and work closely with officers and senior management to agree practical solutions and recommendations is essential.
