A unique opportunity has arisen within the Coroner’s service for a full-time permanent Business Service Assistant to be based at the Chesterfield Coroner’s Office, Town Hall, Rose Hill, Chesterfield, S40 1LP.
The service is responsible for investigating sudden and unnatural deaths, gathering information to use as evidence, liaising with different agencies and supporting families through the inquest process.
We are seeking a committed and organised individual to join our busy office and become part of the Coroner’s team.
What you will be doing:
- Setting up court for inquests, ensuring that the correct bundles and relevant documents are prepared. Managing Microsoft teams for inquests when needed.
- Assisting the Coroner with inquest proceedings, acting as a Court Usher, ensuring that the needs of the Coroner and the public are met.
- Working alongside the Coroners Officer’s to ensure the smooth running of the department.
- Greet and navigate the public and visitors around the office.
- Process incoming oral and written communications to ensure they are dealt with appropriately and effectively in a professional manner.
- Developing and maintaining both electronic and manual filings systems, document management and record keeping systems in accordance with standard formats and service requirements.
- Assist in data analysis and compiling of statistics and information for external parties.
- Process invoices and jury expenses using our finance system ensuring payment terms are met.
- Monitor and replenish stock levels of office equipment.
Skills and experience we are looking for:
- Excellent customer service skills, used to dealing with members of the public.
- Excellent I.T. skills, preferably have previous experience of using case management systems and Microsoft teams.
- Be able to effectively work independently and as part of a team.
- Clear communication and literacy skills both written and oral.
- Accuracy and attention to detail.
- Experience of working in a busy office.
- Ability to follow instructions and carry out work unsupervised using own initiative.
- Be able to demonstrate the ability to plan, organise and prioritise workload to produce a high-level quality outcome.
