Environmental Health Officer / Food Safety Officer

This is an excellent career opportunity in the team dealing with all aspects of Food Safety, Communicable Disease Control and Public Health matters.

This post is suitable for a fully qualified Registered Environmental Health Officer / Practitioner or a Food Safety Officer who as a minimum will hold the EHRB Higher Certificate in Food Premises Inspection or equivalent.

As a key member of the team, you must be able to set priorities and monitor performance and be capable of adapting quickly to changing situations. You will be expected to contribute fully to the work of the team and the organisation. Key responsibilities (Environmental Health Officer):

• To make a significant contribution to ensure that the Council discharges its statutory duties in relation to food safety and associated official controls, health and safety enforcement and public health.
• Provide advice to the Food, Health & Safety Team Leader in relation to service specific responsibilities.
• To supervise the work of two Food Safety Officers and one Regulatory Support Officer from time to time and as appropriate.

Key responsibilities (Food Safety Officer):

• Work under the general direction of the Food, Health & Safety Team Leader to ensure that the Council discharges its duties in carrying out food safety inspections and official controls, investigating cases and outbreaks of infectious diseases and promotion of public health initiatives.
• To take appropriate enforcement action in order to achieve the protection of public health.
