Housing Assistant – Finance

We are currently recruiting for a well-organised and customer-focused Housing Assistant – Finance to support the administration and maintenance of financial and associated systems within Housing Services.

The Housing Assistant Finance role is critical to help ensure rent administration, reconciliations, payment processing and housing account records are accurate, timely and compliant with financial regulations and Council procedures.

The role has the following key responsibilities:

  • Maintain and update housing financial records, including rent, garage and tenancy account information.
  • Process rent payments, refunds, direct debit files, tenancy adjustments, Housing Benefit/Element related adjustments and related changes accurately and in line with regulations.
  • Respond to customer enquiries about rent administration and rent payments by phone, in writing and face to face.
  • Carry out weekly reconciliations, validate control totals and escalate discrepancies where needed.
  • Administer housing account tasks including orders, invoices, debtor and creditor processing, and petty cash.
  • Liaise with Finance and Housing colleagues to provide reports, information and reconciliation support.
  • Assist with audit requirements, statistical information and the review of financial procedures and manuals.
  • Support wider housing administration, including Right to Buy administration, utilities processing and supported housing fee collection where required.

 

We require applicants to have:

  • Previous experience using financial, accounting or invoice processing systems.
  • Experience using computer systems, including word processing and Excel.
  • Good English and mathematics skills.
  • A relevant qualification at Level 3 NVQ or equivalent.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers in person, by telephone and in writing.
  • Ability to work accurately, maintain records, prioritise workload and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent attention to detail
