Derbyshire’s Leaving Care Service are looking for a Full-Time Team Manager to join and lead our passionate and inclusive Erewash and South Derbyshire Leaving Care Team, based at our south Young Persons Hub, Bloomsgrove, Ilkeston.

To manage the development and delivery of an efficient and effective care experienced service, embedding Derbyshire’s operating model into service wide practice to improve outcomes for children and young people who are experiencing care in Derbyshire.

While effectively supervising and overseeing practice, mentoring and guiding leaving care workers from a systemic and family therapy approach, demonstrating and championing restorative and social pedagogic practice.

Lead a team of social care professionals while delivering the Council’s Care Experienced offer, including the Financial and EET offer to our care experienced young people.

Embedded within the team and the service is a trauma informed, relationship-based culture with high level support, expectations and outcomes for our children.

What will you will be doing?

  • You will have oversight and provide scrutiny, while delivering high performance outcomes, assuring excellent transitions to adulthood and excellent working relationships.
  • A partnership approach is required, with a clear line of sight of strategic key areas for care experienced young people to promote and progress the service.
  • Manage a team to ensure high quality standards that supports children to achieve their potential.
  • Effectively supervise senior practitioners and leaving care workers to achieve the best outcomes for Derbyshire’s care experienced young people.
  • Working in partnership with individuals to build and sustain relationships, identify needs, and develop plans and responses that meet those needs.

What skills and experience do you need? 

  • BA Honours in Social Work and current Social Work England registration (refer to job and person profile for more information).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a person-centred approach to building a rapport and relationships with children and families.
  • Ability to reflect on practice and support workers to develop and provide flexible and thoughtful practice to create positive change.
  • Experience of supervision or management of staff with a relationship and reflective focus.
  • Knowledge of specific care experienced best practice guidance, Government guidance and legislation is essential.
  • Direct experience with Care Experienced Young People and Children in Care with knowledge of their journeys and wider social care needs.
