Electrician – Street Lighting

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Highways Service for a dynamic and committed individual to join our street Lighting Service.

We are seeking to appoint an electrician, predominantly in the south working out of our Stonegravels and Ambergate depot. However, the successful candidates will be expected to work across Derbyshire to meet changing demands in workload.

There is a requirement to work out of hours participating in a rota to provide 24/7 cover to emergency situations across the highway electrical assets.

 You will be joining a team of eager and ambitious electricians and have a manager who is supportive and keen to facilitate your development.

What will I be doing:

  • Providing specialist technical knowledge and expertise to identify and

assess situations, develop solutions

  • Carry out fault repairs on our 90,000 streetlights as well as illuminated traffic signs and bus shelters.
  • The role requires you to work at heights up to 14m where you will be responsible for diagnosing faults on individual streetlights as well as faults on private cable networks.
  • Undertaking electrical inspection and testing of highway electrical assets
  • Attend emergency situations in and out of hours
  • Work with external partner agencies to install equipment across our highway electrical asset.

What skills and experience do you need to have:

  • Be enthusiastic, versatile and self-motivated with the ability to work well as part of a team
  • Confidence to work under pressure and manage several tasks simultaneously
  • Educated to City & Guilds 2360 part 1 and 2 or equivalent
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills with attention to detail
  • NHSS 8 Highway Electrical Registration Scheme “Highway Electrician” competency card or similar.
  • Category C1 driving licence and IPAF 1B MEWP operator is highly desired.
