The City of Lincoln Council’s Building Control service is now looking to recruit a permanent Principal Building Control Inspector to join the team. We are looking for a positive, commercially focused, forward-thinking inspector with excellent ICT skills to become a part of our Building Control team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing plans for compliance with the Building Regulations using detailed knowledge of the approved documents and associated legislation.
You will also be required to conduct site visits to inspect building works under construction. As part of this, you will investigate and qualify acceptable solutions and keep accurate records to support decision making. You will also be confident in assessing and instructing action to remedy dangerous buildings and structures and be conversant with the enforcement powers outlined in the Building Act 1984.
To be successful for the Principal Building Control Inspector vacancy, you must have a relevant qualification, such as a degree or similar in a subject such as Building Surveying or Building Control and a sound knowledge of Building Regulations and the building process. Membership of a relevant professional body such as the RICS, CABE or CIOB is desirable.
You will be familiar with the new regulatory regime for Building Control and will need to be registered with the Building Safety Regulator as a Class 2, General Building Inspector for both plan assessment and site inspection.

Essential Qualifications / Skills:
– Professional Building Control Qualification to Associate Member of CABE, RICS or equivalent.
– Significant Building Control experience with at least 3 years in local authority Building Control or equivalent in private sector, with working knowledge of the Building Regulations and associated legislation.
– Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
– Registered as a minimum of Class 2D Building Inspector.
– Have a full valid car driving license.
