We are looking for a Housing Standards & Enforcement Officer to join the Private Sector Housing team.
Our Private Sector Housing team seeks to improve the conditions and management standards of private sector housing.

The role will require you to:
– Make a significant contribution to the improvement of housing standards for people living in private sector accommodation, by conducting detailed inspections, negotiating improvements and taking necessary enforcement action in relation to the relevant Housing Acts and other related legislation including the operation, management and enforcement of HMO licensing and accreditation schemes.
– Take responsibility for wider social issues and project objectives when dealing with housing related problems and ensure that a multi-service response is co-ordinated.
– Deliver the Housing Assistance Policy, in assisting vulnerable households including the range of financial products and assist in the development of new policies and products.
– Line manage up to four Technical Officers, providing professional advice and instructions, managing casework and performance.
– Provide advice to the Private Housing Team Leader in relation to “service specific responsibilities.”
– Assist on the changes brought in by the Renters Rights Act and related Protection from Eviction legislation.
– Your knowledge of housing legislation, will need to make comfortable using formal action where necessary, including attendance at Court where required.
You must be able to attain the professional standard of a Member of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH), through either:
1) A level 4 qualification in a relevant subject (e.g. Environmental Health, Housing, Construction) together with a minimum of five years experience in an environmental health role; OR
2) A relevant degree (e.g. BSc in Housing / Environmental Health); OR
3) Having been assessed by the CIEH and passed the Experience Route to be a Member (MCIEH).
Knowledge and competence of implementing the law relating to housing standards, housing assistance, houses in multiple occupation, public health, protection from eviction and relevant enforcement procedures is essential.
