This is a great opportunity for a driven and experienced sustainability professional to lead the decarbonisation of Council operations and related projects that support the district towards our Bassetlaw Vision 2040.
You’ll be responsible for leading a team of three people who oversee and manage the Council’s energy and utilities, facilitate domestic retrofit funding for the private housing sector and deliver capital decarbonisation projects around the Council’s estate. Job Title: Climate Change Manager
Grade/Salary: Grade 9
Responsible To: Regeneration and Major Projects Manager
General Job Objective: Under the direction of the Growth & Enterprise Team manager, the post is responsible for the development and implementation of carbon reduction and climate change sustainability strategies, management of Council energy and utilities, and deliver projects to support the Council’s green agenda.
Key Tasks:
To be responsible for the development and implementation of strategies, projects and action plans that will:
Reduce carbon emissions
Reduce energy consumption
Support Environmental Sustainability
Lead on district wide climate action initiatives
Responsible for identifying, developing and submitting funding bids for carbon reduction and related climate change projects.
To be responsible for the management and supervision of 3 FTE posts:
1 x Climate Change Energy Officer
1 x Climate Change Officer
1 x Administration Assistant
To be responsible for setting and monitoring the climate change revenue and capital scheme budgets.
Ensure council energy consumption and carbon emissions are from project to council to district wide, creating and maintaining a comprehensive dataset.
Manage capital decarbonisation projects to increase energy efficiency of council owned assets and support district wide estate opportunities.
Work with and manage a range of stakeholders, internal and external, to prepare feasibility assessments in relation to carbon and energy reduction projects.
Work with colleagues, residents and stakeholders to influence and lead their active engagement in a wide range of environmental initiatives.
To coach internal colleagues and external partners in relation to positive actions that they can engage in to reduce environmental impact of organisational activities.
To oversee the Climate Change Team’s financial support procuring and managing Council energy and Utilities.
Preparing and presenting management information and reports as required.
To represent the Council, where appropriate, at meetings with external organisations
To ensure that all data is handled in accordance with the provisions of the General Data Protection Regulations
To undertake such personal training as may be deemed necessary to meet existing and future demands on the post.
To comply with the Council’s procedures, rules, standing orders, financial regulations, and Health and Safety Policy.
Any other duties commensurate with the grade and responsibility level of the post.

Qualifications
Educated to degree level or equivalent qualification in relevant subject such as, Climate Change, Environmental Sciences, or Geography, or 5+ years’ work experience –Priority 1
Knowledge
Excellent working knowledge of a range of environmental and sustainability related subjects including climate change, carbon reduction, ecological conservation, and building retrofit – Priority 1
Understanding of energy management and utilities, with capability to apply financial mechanisms to create investable business case opportunities – Priority 1
Clear insight into public sector procurement rules, instilling adequate timescales in project delivery to ensure compliance – Priority 2
Appreciation for public sector governance and approval processes– Priority 2
Knowledge of public sector strategies and subsequent policy implementation – Priority 2
Understanding of PAS 2035 and its implications for publicly funded domestic retrofit projects – Priority 2
Experience
Minimum 3 years’ work experience in the sustainability sector, working on energy management, low-carbon technologies and building retrofit – Priority 1
Demonstrate successful ability to apply and deliver government funding schemes, preferably related to decarbonisation grant opportunities – Priority 1
Experience working within commercial and domestic retrofit sectors, applying a technical understanding where needed from feasibility through to construction phase of active projects – Priority 2
Skills
