Derbyshire County Council is seeking a committed and skilled Youth & Family Help Practitioner to join our Family Help Service in the Amber Valley locality.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering early help and prevention services, supporting children, young people and families to achieve positive outcomes and build resilience.

About the Role

As a Youth & Family Help Practitioner, you will deliver high-quality, evidence-based interventions to families both in group settings and community environments. You will work directly with children, young people and parents to support improved parenting capacity, emotional wellbeing and life opportunities.

You will:

  • Deliver evidence-based parenting programmes, including Solihull Approach and Non-Violent Resistance interventions
  • Support children and young people’s development through targeted group interventions
  • Provide early help support to reduce escalation into statutory services to agencies
  •  Track and work with young people who are not in education, employment or training (NEET) to improve outcomes.
  • Contribute to partners Team Around the Family (TAF) processes and multi-agency planning
  • Build strong partnerships with schools, health services, community organisations and other professionals

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for a motivated practitioner with a passion for achieving the best outcomes for children and families.

You will have:

  • Experience working with children, young people and families experiencing a range of needs and challenges.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and child development
  • Experience of delivering parenting interventions or group work programmes.
  • Excellent communication, assessment and report writing skills
  • The ability to work effectively in multi-agency environments
  • A relevant Level 3 qualification (e.g. Youth Work, Health & Social Care, Children & Young People’s Workforce.  

You will also be able to work flexibly, including evenings and weekends where required, and have the ability to travel across the locality.

Our Family Help Service is part of Family Help and Safeguarding in Children’s Services, focused on providing timely support to families to prevent escalation of need and improve long-term outcomes.
