Rutland County Council

We work hard to deliver quality services to our customers and are proud of the great work we do. Our team of staff work across the Council in a variety of interesting and rewarding roles with lots of career opportunities.

We provide a diverse range of services and are able to get closer to the things that really matter to the community.

Our teams are made up of people with a huge range of skills from diverse backgrounds. We embrace the ideas of everyone who works here, no matter what their level or role, and encourage every individual to seize new opportunities whether for personal growth or for the benefit of our services. We want to attract the best people who will build their career with us, helping to shape services long into the future.

We’re succeeding and constantly developing here at Rutland County Council. We have a structure that enables our staff to experience a great deal of breadth and scope in their roles. We may have three directorates but working as One Council ensures our customers remain at the heart of every decision and action agreed. We regularly meet as a staff group for our “All Staff Conversation” to ensure staff are kept up to date and have the opportunity to openly bring discussion points to the table. We bring together our strengths, share our challenges and successes, and keep each other informed to ensure we work effectively to deliver quality services time and time again.

Our Values

Our employees are important to us and we acknowledge their contribution supports Rutland in being the fantastic County it is. We have a current set of values that are embedded across the organisation – from recruitment, through induction, your one-to-ones and your professional and personal development. Our values also shape our approach to providing services to our stakeholders in Rutland.

As part of our commitment to development and making Rutland County Council an excellent place to work, we are in the process of updating our corporate values alongside our new corporate plan. All employees have been invited to take part in this review and have contributed towards creating new and improved corporate values. The new values will be shared in due course.

Great benefits

We reward and recognise the valued contribution shown by every member of staff with a comprehensive benefits package, commitment to their personal and professional development, and the flexibility to manage work and home commitments.

Rutland is a great place to live, learn, work and visit!

England’s smallest county is located in the East Midlands, less than one hour from Leicester, Nottingham and Peterborough. Voted Britain’s second-best rural place to live in March 2018, it’s easy to get to, with both the A1 (north-south) and A47 (east-west) passing through the county.

We have much to share with you; not least the fantastic Rutland Water, an array of unspoilt villages and two vibrant market towns, Oakham and Uppingham. Rutland was part of Leicestershire between 1974 and 1997 but is now a proudly independent county.
