Apprentice Environmental Health Officer

Location: Derbyshire
Closing date: 27 July 2025

An exciting apprenticeship opportunity has arisen within the District Council. The Training Programme will run for a period of 4 years from September 2025.

The apprentice programme provides an opportunity to join the Environmental Health service, while undertaking professional studying towards a BSc (Hons) undergraduate qualification for Environmental Health, on a day release scheme. Once qualified the Officer will be eligible for registration with the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) and be able to demonstrate competency to practice as a Qualified Environmental Health Officer as required by the Food Standards Agency (FSA).

The role entails working within the commercial team, that has the responsibility for reviewing hygiene standards, safety standards, animal welfare and infectious diseases. This involves working with local businesses and investigating concerns from the public. You will play an active role in supporting the service, with your own workload of investigations and teamwork. As you develop your skills and knowledge you will be given more responsibilities, within a supportive environment for learning and developing your skills.

The service is looking for an Officer willing to learn and develop whilst taking their first steps into an Environmental Health career. The service is looking for an enthusiastic, good communicator with a general level of education (equivalent qualifications to meet the degree apprenticeship with 80 UCAS points from level 3 qualifications (other qualifications will be considered)). The post gives you an opportunity to make a real impact within the Derbyshire Dales area.

For an informal discussion about the post please contact Amanda Goodwill, Environmental Health Manager on 01629 761316, or alternatively Dave Cowley, Principal Environmental Health Officer on 01629 761249 or email david.cowley@derbyshiredales.gov.uk
