We are looking for a motivated Planning Officer to join our planning team and play an active role in assessing a diverse range of planning applications.
Broxtowe offers a varied and rewarding planning environment, bringing together vibrant town centres, established communities, strategic growth locations and valued landscapes. You will have the opportunity to influence the future of the borough by supporting the delivery of sustainable development and high-quality places.

Managing a varied caseload, you will assess development proposals, advise applicants and consultees, negotiate amendments to secure better outcomes, and prepare clear, balanced and evidence-based recommendations.
Whether you are beginning your career in town planning or are an experienced professional looking for your next opportunity, we would be pleased to hear from you.
We offer a collaborative working environment in which officers are supported to develop their professional skills, broaden their experience and progress their careers.

The successful candidate will:

  • Hold a degree or equivalent qualification in Town and Country Planning that provides eligibility for membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI).
  • Have knowledge of development management, the planning application process, and relevant planning legislation, policy and guidance.
  • Be able to manage and prioritise a varied caseload, meet deadlines, and maintain a thorough and consistent approach.
  • Exercise sound professional judgement and produce balanced, objective and defensible recommendations.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing, with applicants, agents, residents, elected members, colleagues and partner organisations.
  • Be able to work independently, use initiative and contribute positively to a busy and supportive planning team.
  • Be confident using digital planning systems, mapping tools, databases and Microsoft Office applications to manage cases and maintain accurate records.
  • Hold a valid driving licence or be able to make suitable alternative arrangements to carry out the duties of this designated car-user post.

What you need to know:

  • This is a permanent, full-time position working 37 hours per week.
  • Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a formal interview and may also be asked to complete a scenario-based exercise.

If you are enthusiastic about development management and want to help us deliver a responsive, professional and high-quality planning service, we would love to hear from you.
