Centre Manager

Lea Green Learning and Development Centre based in the heart of Derbyshire is one of the country’s leading outdoor education and adventurous activity centres, offering a range of inclusive, accessible, and challenging outdoor activities and is part of the Sports, Outdoor and Residential Education Service (SORE).  SORE has an exciting opportunity for an experienced, enthusiastic and performance driven centre manager to join our team.

The position is a point 5 post, 18.5 hrs per-week. You will work alongside one full time and one part time Centre Manager.

You will be responsible for ensuring the educational needs of young people and families are met and the highest quality standards are achieved.  This will require an in-depth knowledge of outdoor education service delivery practices, procedures, and regulations and knowledge and experience working with young people from a wide variety of backgrounds and needs.

The role has a budgetary as well as significant people management responsibility and the opportunity to be involved in the development of service plans and strategies to meet the centre and services future needs and direction. This will involve working collaboratively with the other service managers and colleagues in the wider authority, as well as external partners.

Along with your co-managers you will have overall responsibility for operations at Lea Green, overseeing all aspects of the day-to-day delivery of high-quality outdoor learning sessions and residential learning by the centre teaching staff and support staff team. You will be responsible for the management of the staff team, including the selection, appointment, induction, deployment, training, and development, and any human resource procedures.  The role is pivotal in developing and motivating staff and in ensuring that excellent customer care and safety is maintained to the highest standards.

You will already be an experienced outdoor education manager, working in a busy environment, with a proven ability to ensure the provision of educational and personal development service that meets client’s specifications and quality standards as well as having experience in providing advice and guidance on the organisation of a variety of residential provision and educational courses. Also experience of engagement and life skill courses for young people in care or on the edge of care, having difficulties in education, behavioural issue in school and or the wider social environment and additional needs. 

This post requires significant evening and weekend work on a 5/7 basis and the ability to work flexible hours to include evenings and weekends in order to meet the needs of the service.
