Based at Chesterfield and District Crematorium, the bereavement service is looking to recruit an apprentice for 2 years. 

National Minimum Wage and National Living Wage rates – GOV.UK

The successful candidate will carry out a range of duties across the service. One day, the apprentice may be attending the chapel, ensuring the space is clean and tidy, assist funeral directors and ministers, and operating a recorded music system.  The next day, you may be word processing data in the office in connection with burial and cremation records.  Occasionally, the apprentice may be required to carry out light maintenance duties such as the watering of bedding plants within the tranquil, award winning grounds.  

Full training, support and supervision will be given throughout and ample time will be allowed to complete apprenticeship studies during the week. We want you to be happy, to thrive and succeed in your role with us.  

If you are looking to learn new skills, obtain a qualification whilst earning a wage, this could be the position for you.  

You will need to have the following: 

  • GCSE grade 4 (GCSE C or above) or equivalent in Maths and English
  • great customer service skills in all things you do
  • if you have completed another apprenticeship or qualification, it must be at a lower level or in a completely different subject area to the apprenticeship you are applying for
  • if you are successful in your application, you must not be in receipt of or attending any other funded training or signed to another apprenticeship
  • finally, we need you to bring personality and a positive can-do attitude, and we will help you make this role your own
