Youth Justice Family Support Worker

Restorative and Education, Training and Employment (ETE) Practitioner

Are you passionate about changing the lives of Derbyshire children and families for the better?

Derbyshire Youth Justice Service is looking for an experienced and motivated Family Support Worker to join our dynamic, multi-agency team of dedicated professionals. In this role, you’ll play a vital part in supporting children and young people at risk of re-offending—helping them build positive relationships, reconnect with their communities, and create brighter futures.

This role is an exciting opportunity to undertake a dual position with the service.  You will be supporting both the team and the children and young people we work with to improve their ETE outcomes whilst also supporting the victims of crime to increase their safety and where possible to rebuild and repair relationships with those who may have harmed them.

The ideal candidate will have specialist experience in the fields of ETE and/or restorative practice, with a passion for developing their skills and sharing their knowledge.

Why Join Derbyshire?

A truly supportive culture
Be part of a collaborative, learning-focused environment where your development matters. You’ll work alongside colleagues who support one another and share a commitment to achieving the best outcomes for children.

Flexible working
We value work-life balance and offer flexible working arrangements to help you succeed both professionally and personally.

Outstanding training & development
Access a wide range of learning opportunities, underpinned by the Derbyshire Operation Model, including:

  • Child First principles
  • Systemic practice
  • Restorative approaches

Our Mission

“Child First in everything we say, do and write.
We build on the strengths of children, families and communities to help them achieve their potential—while protecting the public and supporting victims. We never give up on our children and young people.”

About the Role

This is a full-time, permanent position within the Chesterfield, North Dales and High Peak team, with a hybrid working model and an office base at The Quad, Chesterfield.

As a Family Support Worker, you will:

  • Work directly with children, young people, and their families
  • Collaborate with a strong multi-agency professional network within the service and with partners around the community.
  • Guide and advise your colleagues around the available ETE opportunities across our area and meet with children to support them to identify and overcome barriers to their career aspirations.
  • Evidence a commitment to working restoratively with children and victims, using skills in empathy and understanding to help repair harm between parties and to help victims move forwards in their lives with satisfaction and safely.

You’ll be joining a service rated ‘Good’ by HMIP, reflecting the quality and impact of our work.
