Information Governance Officer

Location: Derbyshire

We are looking to recruit to a key role within the Information Governance team. The team is responsible for ensuring that the council complies with the latest data protection and freedom of information legislation requirements.

Ultimately, your role will be to protect the individuals’ rights of Derbyshire residents, under UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018 legislation. You will also support compliance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

The job involves:

  • managing a team of staff responsible for processing access to information requests, e.g., subject access requests (SARs) requests and Freedom of Information (FOI) requests, to a high a high standard and promptly.
  • Supporting managers across the council with data protection impact assessments
  • Ensuring data security incidents are investigated and appropriate action is taken
  • Making sure that information governance policies, procedures, information sharing agreements and privacy notices remain relevant and up to date.
  • Raising awareness of and providing guidance on data protection and records management across the council.
  • Working with managers across the council to continuously improve data protection and records management related processes.

You will need:

 

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to quickly build a rapport with colleagues and requesters
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of data protection and freedom of information legislation.
  • Demonstrate an up-to date understanding of new and emerging technologies relating to information governance and records management
  • The ability to work to high-pressure deadlines
  • Experience of managing staff
