Museum Attendant

Location: Derbyshire
Job Expires: 2026-08-16

Derbyshire County Council

Closing date: 16 August 2026

Museum Attendant: 10.5 hours per week. Friday 9am to 3pm (30 minutes break) and Saturday 9am to 2pm.

This is an exciting opportunity to join Buxton Museum and Art Gallery as it begins an important new chapter. We are looking for a friendly, practical and enthusiastic Museum Attendant to help create a welcoming, engaging and safe experience for every visitor.

You will be part of a small team helping to keep the museum open, accessible and enjoyable for local people, visitors and community groups. The role includes welcoming visitors, answering enquiries, keeping gallery spaces clean and well-presented, supporting exhibitions and displays, helping with the museum shop and assisting with the care and documentation of collections.

No two days will be quite the same. You might be helping visitors explore the displays, preparing materials for an exhibition, updating collections information, supporting promotion through social media, carrying out routine safety and security checks or making sure the shop and public areas are ready for the day.

We are looking for someone with good customer service skills, clear communication, confidence using Microsoft Office and the ability to work both independently and as part of a small team.

An interest in museums, galleries, local history or heritage would be an advantage but most important is a positive, helpful approach and a commitment to giving every visitor a great experience.
