Play Lead – Afterschool Club

Creswell Infant and Nursery School is a nurturing and inclusive school located in the heart of an ex-mining community near Bolsover. We currently welcome 188 pupils from Foundation Stage 2 to Year 2, along with a 48-place nursery offering 15-hour provision. Guided by our Christian vision – ‘Together with God, we shine in all we do’ – we are a dedicated team with the ambition of championing every child, where each is celebrated, nurtured, and given the opportunity to shine. 

The Headteacher and Governors would like to recruit a Play Lead, for our new Afterschool Club.   We aim to open the facility as soon as possible, providing wraparound care for our families.  We expect to start the club with 10 / 15 children, developing the club and increasing the number of children attending throughout the year.  You will work alongside and supervise a Playworker, who will support you to deliver all aspects of the afterschool club.  This is an exciting opportunity for the right person! 

The successful candidate will join us as soon as possible, no later than September 26. You will work each school day, after school.  Hours to be confirmed but expected to be 3.00pm – 6.00pm. 

Whilst this is a fixed term contract for 12 months, we hope to extend.

About the role:-

The Afterschool Club Play Lead will lead and develop the day to day operation of the Afterschool Club.     Working with and overseeing the Playworker to deliver activities, which are interesting, fun and appropriate for the age group of the children attending.     

You will lead activities, perhaps sports, crafts and games.  You will supervise children and ensure their safety and wellbeing.  You will build strong relationships with our parents and the school team. 

You will support the initial set up of the club, providing the benefit of your ideas.   You will work with, and ensure consistency with our already established Breakfast Club facility, being part of a team delivering high quality wraparound facilities across school. 

The ideal candidate will:

• Have experience working with children in a play or educational setting.
• Have a relevant qualification.
• Have excellent organisational and communication skills.
• Have basic knowledge of safeguarding and health and safety procedures.
• Have a food hygiene and paediatric first aid certificate, or willing to complete.
