Service Development Officer (Public Health)

Are you interested in working in the Public Health Wider Determinants team to make a real difference to the financial wellbeing of people in Derbyshire?

This is an exciting opportunity to deliver support directly to vulnerable households, and to research and evaluate programmes on a county wide basis.

The role is based within the Public Health Financial Inclusion team and will involve working with financial inclusion partners across the county, and alongside the Welfare Rights Service and Derbyshire Discretionary Fund, joining a wide range of activity to address social, economic and environmental factors which impact on people’s health.

Base is flexible, but likely to involve some home working and travel to locations across the county.

The purpose of the role is:

  • To develop and deliver the work of the Household Support Fund (in particular overseeing the direct delivery of support to pensioner households in Derbyshire)
  • To connect to our partners delivering other elements of the Household Support Fund programme to reflect, review and evaluate the programme overall, and shape recommendations for the future.
  • To work with colleagues in the Financial Inclusion team to gather evidence of impact, review effectiveness, and develop service innovations.

You will be involved in:

  • Working with a range of partner organisations to identify relevant cohorts; manage data; and deliver on an agreed work programme within defined deadlines.
  • Preparing for programme meetings and recording decisions taken and contributing to wider monitoring of programme activity.
  • Gathering evidence of service delivery and impact, both qualitative and quantitative, and collating this into recommendations for service development.
  • Implementing developments based on the evidence and supporting change across the teams.

Whatever their background, the right candidate will have an understanding of the importance of the wider(social) determinants of health, a proven track record of delivering on agreed priorities, partnership working skills, an ability to work on their own initiative and judgement and have a strong drive to reduce inequality and improve health.
