The Role

We are looking for a Visitor Hub Assistant to work across our National Park Centres in Bakewell and Castleton (you must be able to work at both sites).

In this role, you will proactively pursue sales opportunities while ensuring every visitor receives a warm, welcoming and memorable experience. You will promote National Park messages, support fundraising objectives, and provide accurate information about the local area and the work of the Peak District National Park Authority.

You will operate the till, complete daily income returns and banking procedures, maintain high-quality retail displays, and ensure stock control processes are followed. You will also open and close sites, maintain cleanliness and presentation standards, and ensure all health and safety and other Authority procedures are followed at all times.

This post is an annualised hours contract of 964.5 hours per year (equivalent to an average of 18.5 hours per week). Hours vary seasonally, with more hours worked in the summer and school holidays and fewer in the winter. The exact pattern will be agreed with your line manager, but as a guide:

School holidays and summer: 3–4 shifts per week, typically 7.5 hours per shift

Winter: 2–3 shifts per week, typically 6 hours per shift

The role includes:

Regular weekend and bank holiday working
Regular lone working
Working across both Bakewell and Castleton centres

About You

You’ll be enthusiastic, customer-focused and confident in a busy, visitor-facing environment.
You will have experience in retail or customer service, be confident in maximising sales and handling cash, and comfortable using a till or point of sale system. You’ll communicate clearly, work well independently (including lone working), and maintain high standards of presentation and attention to detail.

Flexibility to work a seasonal pattern including weekends and bank holidays is essential.
