Permanent

Salary Grade 12, £55,747 to £61,086

Full Time, 37 hours per week

Are you passionate about delivering high-quality, efficient waste and recycling services that make a real difference to local communities?

Bassetlaw District Council is looking for an experienced and motivated Waste Management Services Manager to lead the delivery and continuous improvement of our waste, recycling, street cleansing and fleet & transport service across the district.

No two days will be the same in this fast-paced and rewarding role. You’ll spend time both in the office and out on site where you will provide operational delivery and strategic direction across all aspects of waste, recycling, street cleansing and fleet & transport service. Ensuring statutory obligations are met, you will also lead the service forward—promoting innovation, efficiency, and continuous improvement, always supporting the Council’s ambitions around sustainability and carbon reduction.

This is a key leadership role within our Waste Services, offering a genuine opportunity to shape the future of waste management in Bassetlaw.

A message from Councillor Darrel E Pulk, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods:

‘We serve over 57,000 households, collecting from every house, every week, 52 weeks of the year. This is 2,974,000 collections every year.

Currently we offer three services: a domestic green bin for general waste, a blue bin for recyclable waste, and a garden waste service to which over 14,200 households subscribe.

Bassetlaw has ambitions to introduce glass kerbside collections, to be fully rolled out by April 2026, and food waste collections to be introduced in 2027.

As a council, our shared vision is for Bassetlaw to be a green and sustainable district which is ready to face the challenges of climate change. Going forward, this means our objective must be to maximise recycling and minimise general waste. We must work to improve and enhance communications with residents, enabling everyone to help achieve these aims.

Bassetlaw will strive to provide waste management services which meet the needs of our residents whilst providing the best value for money – at the same time maximising our recycling rates and minimising our general waste.’

The successful applicant will have strong legislative knowledge, project management skills, experience of managing high value budgets and ensuring high standards of health and safety and performance management across a large multi-disciplinary workforce.

In return we offer a generous employee benefit package including 26-32 days holiday plus bank holidays, free healthcare cash plan, flexitime and so much more. You can read about all our employee benefits here.
